Uganda 2010

In June 2010 a group of 15 students and staff from the Christchurch campus travelled to Uganda on a six week missions trip.  The team lived at a home for 16 children with multiple disabilities and were involved in 5 main projects: 

Home of Hope

  • Feeding, therapy, prayer, dance, music with the children
  • Encouragement of the staff - prayer, worship and everyday conversations
  • Buidling a playground including trampoline and sandspit
  • Art time - the art peices produced by the children were later auctioned in New Zealand

Hope Reaching

  • Visiting families in the villages with kids with a disability
  • Prayer, healing
  • Makeovers for the mums - new clothes, bras, footwashing, nail painting, soap, clothes for kids
  • Family photos
  • Visiting new families - needs assessment, disability diagnosis, therapy goals

     

Church Ministry

  • Leadership conference for pastors from 10 churches
  • Church services and children's programmes each Sunday
  • Started a discipleship course and trained leaders to carry this on
  • Treasure training with church leaders
  • Pastoral visits with church members
  • Holy Spirit teaching and impartation evening prayer
  • Outreaches at Primary Schools, High Schools and Tertiary Training Centres

Step Up

  • Networked with organisations working with street kids in Jinja
  • Set up Step Up at a primary school.  This is for 40 children who have no parents.  The team trained and employed a Youth Worker 2 days per week to work with the children.  The team rented a house to accommodate 13 children who were living in unsafe situations, a house mum was interviewed and appointed to look after the children and approval from government agency was obtained.
  • Dinner meetings were held in the school where the kids were taught how to hear from God.  Each kid was given a journal to write what God was saying , prayer - prophesy - word of knowledge.  

     

 

Footsteps

  • The main focus of this was intercession where the team prayed and worshipped wherever they went
  • Went out with Counsellor to visit returned child soldiers and did prayer, treasure hunt and worship in villages
  • Made connection with local church where some of the returned child soldiers go and ran service and kids programme there
