Rarotonga 2009

A team of 35 students and staff from the Auckland campus visited Rarotonga in 2009. Work on the  trip focussed on the following:

  • Multiple visits to the prison by different team members
  • School ministry where, after dance, drama and testimonies, the team was able to talk to many of the students.
  • House to house evangelism distributing the Jesus DVD with many opportunities to talk to and pray with people.

  • Market place ministry where members of the team evangelised those who had come to the markets.
  • Healing meetings where the students prayed for the sick.
  • Public showings of gospel movies.

One Student described one aspect of the work:

"The first day was busy with sleeping arrangements with one team staying in Avarua and two in Titikaveka followed by a welcoming dinner by our host church the Assembly of God.  The next morning we hit the ground running with our first round of DVD distributions.   We would go around in pairs to every home on the street to offer free DVD hire of the Jesus movie.  We would come back in two days to collect the DVD and ask them if they had watched it and did they pray the prayer at the end.  If they did or if they liked to know more we would take them through a simple tract in how to receive Christ.  We gave new converts a Bible and organised someone to follow them up and help establish them in a local church to ensure they continued their walk with Christ."

 God's Healing Power

We held a healing meeting and a teaching session on healing and God provided words of knowledge.  Students also prayed for individuals as we went door to door.  Following are some results:

  • Lady with migraine – she testified a couple of days later how she found it really hard at work because of migraines and after prayer she did not experience any more migraines.
  • Lady with stomoach ulcers - sent a text to the students one hour after the meeting to tell us that she ate seafood for the first time in years with no adverse reaction.
  • Lady with hearing aids – totally healed.  After the meeting as she was having a cup of tea, she told her daughter “you are speaking too loudly”
  • Another lady with stomach ulcers – did not come forward during the meeting when she received the word of knowledge – came to visit the students the next day for prayer – totally healed. She carried a lot of un-forgiveness & her voice was hardly audible when she spoke – decided to forgive the people around her including her husband. The doctors had diagnosed that the ulcers were cancerous – all pain had left her abdomen.  She also shared on our last day how she now loved her husband like she first did when she met him.
  • Lady born deaf – hearing improved slightly when tested – as we prayed again she heard a pop  in her ear – this time she could hear.

  •  Ex-Jehovah Witness – had multiple problems and was in hospital the day before because of a minor stroke.  We prayed for his arthritis in the back, diabetes and heart and he said he felt heat in his back – a couple of days later he got his results – diabetes was under control,  he was not feeling the pain from the arthritis and his heart was in great condition.
On our return to NZ, four students decided to go on a similar door to door outreach in South Auckland.  They came across an Indian family and the lady of the house was reported to have had evil spirits.  She looked really angry and unapproachable.  The students prayed for her and the next time they visited – they got such a huge hug from her and were amazed at the change that had occurred in her.

God is amazing and He continues to show His power and love.  Amen.
